At the 2022 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), HP announced that its Metal Jet S100 solution will be put into commercial use. The solution can accelerate product and design innovation, help customers print a large number of high-quality parts in a digital and intelligent way, subvert traditional manufacturing, and achieve large-scale production of 3D metals.
1. “Customer-centric, design-led”, end-to-end software and hardware supply chain solutions
In the past 10 years, the manufacturing industry has undergone earth-shaking changes, and its estimated value has reached 12 trillion US dollars. The industry is in the early stages of the fourth industrial revolution. 3D printing continues to lead the advancement of manufacturing design and processes, and achieve economies of scale throughout the manufacturing industry.
Mr. Didier Deltort, President of HP’s Personalization and 3D Printing Business, said: “Change has become the new normal. HP deeply feels that the entire industry, from factories to consumers, from healthcare to automotive manufacturing, expects to digitally transform the processes and supply chains of traditional manufacturing.” Additive manufacturing has a bright future. As a trusted partner in the industry, HP has been committed to helping partners improve productivity. HP’s new Metal Jet commercial solutions and innovative collaborations with market leaders such as Schneider Electric will make 3D printing more sustainable, reliable and efficient.”
HP Metal Jet S100 provides a “customer-centric, design-led” end-to-end software and hardware supply chain solution that will pave the way for the digitalization of the global metal manufacturing industry.
The Metal Jet S100 solution provides high productivity, integrated workflows, subscriptions and professional services, which will bring customers unprecedented technical and business advantages and help them quickly achieve their business transformation goals. The modular solution enables built units to move between four different sites, which means that users can continue to produce metals at scale.
“Since announcing the breakthrough Metal Jet technology in 2018, HP has been committed to developing the industry’s most advanced 3D metal mass production commercial solutions,” said Ramon Pastor, vice president and general manager of HP Metal 3D Printing Solutions. “3D metal printing is a key driver of digital transformation. The new Metal Jet S100 solution will provide customers with world-class metal products. More importantly, it will help customers open up unlimited possibilities for digital manufacturing from design to production. ”
HP has industry-leading expertise and IP assets in thermal inkjet and latex printing technologies, which will bring customers huge advantages in cost, quality, productivity and reliability. HP’s thermal inkjet printheads significantly improve printing speed, part quality and repeatability. HP’s developed latex binders can produce environmentally friendly parts that are stronger and do not require degreasing, and their quality can reach industrial production levels.
2. The unique advantages of HP Metal Jet technology
Innovative design: The design of new geometries, density control and lightweight integrated metal parts breaks through the possibilities of 3D printing.
Simplify the process and reduce costs: The new solution simplifies the process required to manufacture parts and reduces the cost of manual labor or complex requirements, thereby improving the production efficiency of the entire supply chain.
Improve productivity: Binder Jetting allows layer-by-layer processing, which increases productivity by 10 times. Isotropic The properties of metal powders do not require post-processing and support removal, and metal powders are more cost-effective than laser-based 3D printing powders.
Higher resolution for improved part quality: HP printheads integrate decades of industrial thermal inkjet technology, providing high resolution and high system stability when defining geometries, making large-scale commercial manufacturing of 3D metal parts a reality.
3. Innovative collaboration, breakthrough applications
Metal Jet supports a variety of advancements and new product applications with higher productivity, lower part costs and excellent quality.
HP has achieved milestones in the application of 3D printed products with industry-leading partners and customers including GKN, Parmatech, Cobra Golf, Legor Group and Volkswagen. HP’s Metal Jet solutions are helping more partners and customers around the world achieve large-scale metal production, including Domin Digital, an innovative industrial company specializing in hydraulic systems and valves Motion, Lumenium, a startup developer of rotary engines, and Schneider Electric.
Schneider Electric is a global leader in energy management and automation, digital transformation and upgrading, with a portfolio spanning real estate, commercial, industrial and other industries, including products, management, software and services.
Michael Lotfy, senior vice president of Schneider Electric North America Power Products and Systems, said: “We are excited that the cooperation with HP will bring unlimited possibilities for Schneider Electric’s business development. Schneider Electric has been looking for more sustainable and convenient innovative development solutions. By applying HP Metal Jet solutions, Schneider Electric’s products fully demonstrate the technical advantages of digital manufacturing and 3D printing. Schneider Electric looks forward to meeting the changing needs of customers with more diverse product applications and meeting the challenges of sustainable development and Power 4.0. ”
HP Metal Jet and GKN have collaborated to produce a new filter for Schneider Electric’s NSX circuit breakers, which has a complex shape that is beyond the capabilities of other forms of industrial manufacturing. HP Metal Jet technology not only improves the shape design of the new power filter, but also reduces the impact of gas, pressure and heat on the filter in a more limited space, significantly improving productivity and environmental benefits.
